- Baseband Video Testing With Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes - Video signals are complex waveforms comprised of signals representing a picture as well as the timing information needed to display the picture. To capture and measure these complex signals, you need powerful instruments tailored for this application. But, because of the variety of video standards, you also need a general-purpose instrument that can provide accurate information - quickly and easily. Rate this link

- Testing Digital Video - MPEG2 Data Streams When talking about testing MPEG, there is no single, simple testing solution. The MPEG2 signal is very complex, and depending on what part of the MPEG chain you are interested in, the testing requirements will be different: elementary stream (ES), packetized elementary stream (PES), transport stream (TS), program-specific information (PSI). - Visual Impact of Differential Gain and Differential Phase in Video Systems - The ultimate measure of quality in video systems is largely determined by visually looking at the resulting picture. But it is also very beneficial to have objective measurements for judging quality. Of all the electrical measurements for video, differential gain (dG) and differential phase (dP) are often the best for determining the quality of the system. This article will help the reader understand the relationship between the dG/dP measured values and their impact on the video picture?s quality. Rate this link

General information
Many different test signals are needed to test video systems and devices. Some test signals are used for visual check and other test signalsare used for measurements made with measurement equipment(most often vectorscope and/or oscilloscope). Color bars are the most commonly usedtest pattern to check whether a video system is calibrated correctly. A video system is calibrated correctly if the colors are the correct brightness, hue, and saturation. This can be checkedwith a vector scope.
